There is something about Burford at Christmas that feels almost unreal. At The Angel, we love this time of year. The fire goes on early, the tree takes pride of place in the bar and suddenly everything feels a little softer, a little slower and a lot more festive. If you are planning your winter outings, here is a little look at what is happening with us.
Festive Menu Launching Late November
One of the best things about this season is the food, and our festive menu is always something we look forward to sharing. It arrives at the end of November and fills the pub with the smells of proper winter cooking. Think rich flavours, comfort on every plate and dishes made for long, happy meals with the people you enjoy most. Bookings are open and December always fills quickly, so it is well worth getting in early.
Burford Lights Switch-on 29th November, 3 to 4pm
If you have never been in Burford for the lights switch-on, put it in your diary. The whole town comes together as the sky darkens and the countdown begins. There is music, excitement and that lovely moment when the high street suddenly glows. Before or after the lights, wander up to The Angel. We will have the fire roaring and Mulled Spiced Apple Juice ready at the bar. It is one of those simple, wholesome evenings that kick starts the festive feeling perfectly.
Steak Night Every Wednesday
December is made for cosy evenings out and our Wednesday Steak Night fits right in. Choose your favourite cut, add a bottle of house wine for two, and settle into the glow of the pub for a slow, easy midweek treat. It is relaxed, cheerful and just the right amount of indulgent for this time of year.
Breakfast and Morning Coffee Daily from 8am
There is something peaceful about winter mornings in Burford. Before the day gets busy, join us for coffee from 8am or breakfast from 8.30am. Our AA Rosette team cooks everything fresh, and the atmosphere is gentle and welcoming. It is a lovely way to start a day of Christmas shopping or a winter walk along the Windrush.
New Year’s Eve Tasting Menu
And then there is New Year’s Eve. At The Angel, we like to make it feel special without losing that cosy, familiar atmosphere. Our six-course tasting menu comes with live music, candlelight and plenty of cheer. It is an evening designed for lingering, enjoying and raising a glass to the year ahead. Pre booking is essential, as this one always sells out.
